In the year 2001, the First Lady, was appointed Goodwill Ambassador for Safe Motherhood. She has had several meetings with women leaders, religious and cultural leaders on how to confront the maternal mortality rate which is extremely high, at 505/100,000. Sensitization so far has been carried out in the districts of Kamuli, Mpigi, Masindi, Mbale and Iganga districts by her representatives such as Professor Mirembe and Dr. Beyeza.
In 1998, NSARWU received a grant from African Development Foundation [ADF] to the tune of Ug Shs 288,527, 400/=. This was to finance a revolving fund, capacity building in credit and savings management and also natural resource management component.
In 1998, His Excellency the President assigned us a restocking exercise in Gulu and Kitgum districts. Over 800 cows and seeds were supplied to families in the two districts. We are grateful to His Excellency for entrusting us with the exercise. A very special thank you too to Mr. and Mrs. Odida and Mr. Patrick Sirali whose commitment for a good job we shall always remember.
NSARWU's goal is to promote increased agricultural production. The activities associated with the goal are:
- Securing necessary inputs such as high yielding seeds.
- Securing advisory or extension/technical services for the women groups.
- Acquiring exotic animals for improved production.
